Examining Alternatives to Windows

I was once again taking a test of which Linux distribution was right for me. [http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/index.php]
I keep doing this because its fun and anyways since we hardly have time for a reassessment of ourselves- at least lets do it for the OS we use- that apart- since I was bored I answered the questions towards that of a newcomer, realizing that newbies are advised to use Linspire and Freespire. Turns out Fedora or Ubuntu is too complicated. Jeez.
Nevertheless, while Freespire is free- Linspire had some retail versions. Whoa.
I had not heard of Lindows in a long time- only a nugget after their conflict with Microsoft and a new christening to Linspire. Michael Robertson was an aggressive fella challenging Bill with a radical name- however moved to safe waters with a newer one.
Linspire, although I never tried it, seemed interesting. [http://www.linspire.com/products_linspire_whatis.php] Being based on Ubuntu, what set it right for beginners, or rather- a real alternative was the fact that the guys at Linspire will take care of your drivers, proprietary software, codecs and assurance that they got the licensing agreements with dozens of commercial software vendors, including Microsoft [http://www.microsoft.com/interop/collab/linspire/customer_covenant.mspx]
And this for $49.95.
They also have the “CNR” [http://www.cnr.com/] – and I have my doubts if I have to pay for CNR. I’m waiting for that site to open up.
